Infra Red Thermometers are absolutely safe for kids. These thermometers gather the infra red light (heat) coming from your kid’s forehead and do not emit any infra red light.
Having said that, they are not very accurate. As such they are touch free, they are good for a quick screening of surface temperature in public places in a pandemic situation. However the good old mercury thermometer remains the gold standard for checking if your child has fever. Though safe, it is not advisable to buy these for your home use.
